Corang Peak + Corang Lagoon
Budawangs National Park

Vic, Val, Camilla, Danny - November 2006

We drove down to Wollongong on the Friday night, went out with Vic and Val for Lebanese, then slept on their lounge-room floor. We were up at 7am, then Vic drove us down to the Wog Wog entrance to Budawangs National Park, and we were walking just after 10am.

Work had been started paving the road from Nowra to Nerriga, which will be great for communications between the coast and the Braidwood area, but which involved straightening and widening the road and thus chopping down many trees and making a bit of a mess.

We passed a group going out at Tinderry lookout and were passed by a young Swiss (?) couple near Korra hill, soon after which we had lunch. There were good flowers and most of my photos were macros, with my 14-54 lens at 54mm.

It hadn't been too hot, but the fog came in dramatically and by the time we got to Corang Peak there wasn't much of a view, and we managed to miss the Natural Arch completely.

We camped just south of the track where it starts on boardwalks over Canowie Brook.

On Sunday we climbed back up to have a look at the Natural Arch. Then we walked down Canowie Brook to the Corang River, where there are some rock ribs that require clambering over, and which stick into the river. We came out via the Lagoon, getting to the track junction and then to the car in good time. We had hamburgers in Nerriga on the way back to Wollongong.
