Jagungal + Geehi headwaters
Sunday
It was overcast in the morning and we had to pack up damp tents. It was
a short walk along the fire trail to the weather station, then we headed
up Jagungal. This was easier than it looked, as it was pleasantly cool
and we took it easy.
I spotted what I though was the tail of a white-lipped snake disappearing
into the bushes. And there were lots of skinks and spiders scurrying
away as we approached. Kristina was good at spotting the spiders,
and at waiting quietly for them to reappear from their holes.
After a photo stop on Jagungal's summit we returned to the saddle
for lunch. From there we sidled along the mountain's southern flanks,
through beautiful alpine meadows and bogs, then dropped down the ridge
to the junction of the two Geehi branches. Here we found a nice little
campsite next to the eastern fork, where the creek is extremely meandering
and there's a rock "lounge chair".
In the afternoon we went for a short walk to the east, where a big
rectangular block of rock on the ridge has three artificially raised rocks
(only half a metre high) on it.
Camilla and I looked for frogs at dusk, but didn't see any, though we
heard the corroborree frogs in full swing. And there were excellent
stars.
