I ended up staying in the Mai Pham hotel again. After resting a bit I headed off around 4pm and wandered the city centre, roughly following a walking route taken from the Lonely Planet guide.

What Would Ho Chi Minh have thought? Thirty four years after the fall of Saigon, central Ho Chi Minh City is full of glitzy department stores and shops sporting international brands and fashion labels. And while it's not the effective currency like it is in Cambodia, the US dollar is still ubiquitous.
