Lake Manyara National Park, part 1:
monkeys, warthog, hippo

While the park entry paperwork was done we wandered around a short boardwalk (with information signs).

Lake Manyara National Park was the most wooded of the parks we visited: the part near the entrance was very much jungle rather than savannah. Simon gave us a brief account of the place of the baobab in local culture. A blue monkey sitting on a huge termite mound didn't seem terribly interested but looked on like a bored attendant as we went by.

The monkey wasn't the only animal that was remarkably unconcerned about us driving by. Warthog hardly have a high profile, but they are surprisingly attractive and we watched a couple rooting for food. (In the Masai Mara we had seen males jousting and females with young trotting behind them.)

Baboons and vervet monkeys are always good fun to watch.

We stopped at a "hippo pool", where we could get out, though we couldn't walk very far.
