Tour du Mont Blanc (North) overview
We had planned this a long time earlier — Carol had suggested it when I told her I was coming to visit Switzerland.
We eventually decided to do the northern half of the walk clockwise, from Chamonix to Courmayeur, skipping the Champex to Ferret section by catching a bus. That would allow us to get the cable car back at the end of the walk.
We had two days of really nice weather — the first and fourth — two days that were overcast with drizzle — the second and third — and a final half-day that was really rather wet.
Practicalities
I wasn't 100% sure of what was provided, so here are some tips for others in the same position:- All the refuges we stayed in had hot showers. So take a towel and soap!
- Bed covers and quilts or blankets are provided, but for hygiene and comfort you will want your own a sleeping-sheet (you can hire these in some refuges).
- All the refuges had electrical power, usually in the room.
