Following on from the previous post on baby/toddler books, some of Helen's favourite books - the ones that have been read dozens of times - at two years and two months, include:
- The Paddington Treasury for the Very Young (we also have three of the other R.A. Alley illustrated Paddington stories, and I'll probably buy the rest just for a bit more variety when reading these over and over again)
- A Madeline Treasury (six stories about a girl in a Parisian boarding school: "In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines // lived twelve little girls in two straight lines")
- The Very Noisy Night (Helen's favourite going to bed book - thanks Liz!)
- Once There Was a Boy... (the boxed set of four little hardcovers)
- Iggy Peck, Architect
- My Alfie Collection (the first four Alfie books)
- the Titchy Witch series (Helen picked one of these herself on a library visit, and has insisted on getting more every time we visit the library)
- various Dr Seuss books, especially Green Eggs and Ham (which Helen calls "Sam I Am") - we have the twenty book boxed set, with lovely toddler-sized hardcovers
Other favourites, though not perhaps read quite as often as the ones above:
A common theme seems to be that Helen likes series. Presumably that's the same reason they attract adults, the combination of the familiar characters and (often) setting with novel plots and pictures.
Ludwig Bemelmans also wrote some interesting books about his early life working in New York hotels. For adults.
