After photographing chimneys, I switched to photographing people along High St. I stopped at the Last Bookshop (where I bought three books), got an icecream from G+D's, and then walked back home along the river, taking more photographs of people relaxing or rowing.
There were lots of people on High waiting for buses.

Many people seemed determined to turn themselves the colour of lobsters. (Being Australian, I was wearing a hat, but no one else was.)

It's about time you people had some serious sunshine after a severe winter. I am surprised to see so many people go sleeveless so early in spring.
No shortage of people wishing to turn themselves the colour of lobsters as you observed. This reminds me of a film which I saw in the late '60s ( at the Cremorne Orpheum) called "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush." In one particular scene a group of boys is seen stripping off to change in a dressing room. The whole cinema bursts out laughing as everyone appears pale and lilly-white. Of course, the director did not mean it to be humorous. To Australian eyes, it was hilarious. I had a big belly-laugh.

Yes, they do need the sun in big doses when it does appear.
Hm - so you were laughing uproariously at the different skin colour of people from other countries...
Correction: the whole cinema audience laughed. At question is not the skin colour ; it is the obvious lack of sun tan that brought the house down laughing.
Before the awareness of skin cancer and the harm of over-exposure to UV rays, Australians, especially the young people routinely got themselves tanned for that bronze-Aussie looks. I lived through that era of the '60s, the time of the surfie culture, of bleached hair and zinc cream-smeared faces. Just listen to a big hit of the time, you, too, will get a feel of the bygone era.
